Abstract. The work is devoted to the investigation of a method for accelerating the neutralization of natural gas odorant storage tanks. Currently, there are hundreds of tanks that have been taken out of service or are at the end of their service life. The accumulation of decommissioned odorant storage tanks is one of the environmental problems existing in the country’s gas distribution system [1]. When tanks are taken out of service and stored under air access, dialkyl sulfides are formed. When oxygen and active iron sulfides interact, sulfuric acid accumulates in an aqueous solution, increasing the corrosion rate. Localization of corrosion processes at the bottom of the tank, against the background of their acceleration, can quickly lead to a sharp thinning of the steel bottom of the tank and the formation of a through hole through which the remains of odorant (substances of the second hazard class) can enter the environment, which further aggravates the environmental situation during storage and disposal of used odorant tanks.
