Abstract. Existing laboratory methods for assessing the propensity of compressor oils to form (HTDF) do not allow obtaining reliable results when testing modern synthetic compressor oils possessing high thermal and oxidative stability. Research has been conducted to substantiate a scientific and methodological approach to solve the problem of developing a new method for assessing the propensity of compressor oils to form HTDF based on the theory of similarity and the method of dimensional analysis. A physical model (FM) of chemmotological processes occurring under real operating conditions of high pressure reciprocating air compressors (RAC) is proposed. The quantitative dependence of the propensity of compressor oils to form on the structural elements of the compressor and in laboratory conditions has been established by finding similarity criteria, using them for FM decomposition, calculating the values of similarity criteria according to RAC and calculating test conditions on a laboratory apparatus.
The laboratory unit was created and a method of conducting the experiment was proposed. It was shown that the developed test method for assessing the propensity of compressor oils to form HTDF makes it possible to differentiate synthetic compressor oils according to the specific gravity of the formed HTDF index.
